Alternatives For Children Dix Hills, located at 600 South Service Road in Dix Hills, with easy on/off access to the Long Island Expressway, and located near the busy 110 corporate corridor and Huntington Quadrangle, is the ideal location for your child care needs.

A pre-existing school building, the child care center is an environment with the built in safety and security requirements that are needed for compliance with the NYS Education Department and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services regulations for preschool and child care licensing.  The facility includes a safe and secure playground environment as well as ample parking. In addition, we are thrilled that this new location is much more accessible to the Nassau County families and school districts we currently serve.

Alternatives For Children uses the Creative Curriculum, which is aligned with the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS), and ensures continuity with the Common Core State Standards in ELA and Math. The Creative Curriculum is an early childhood curriculum designed to foster children’s social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language development, as well as enhance learning in literacy, math, social studies, the arts and technology.

Classrooms at Alternatives For Children are clearly defined into appropriate learning centers. Learning centers include areas for pretend play, library, technology, blocks, creative arts, sand and water play, music and writing center. Each center is filled with developmentally age appropriate materials and hands-on manipulatives that encourage and support a child’s learning.

A daily schedule provides children with structure and a sense of order and safety. The experienced early childhood professionals at Alternatives For Children balance planned activities with activities selected by the children that allows them to direct their learning experiences. Included in the daily schedule is time for moderate to vigorous physical activity both outside and inside. Music and Computer/Educational Technology class are part of the children’s weekly schedule.

Our teachers and early childhood professionals create an environment in which children learn through structured and unstructured group play, always with an eye on offering comprehensive, educationally sound experiences, which emphasize  early pre-reading skills, pre-writing skills, computational skills and phonological awareness skills.

Children leave Alternatives for Children ready to learn and ready for kindergarten.
